STREET2SCHOLAR FOUNDATION
From the street, to the scholar's seat and beyond

No child should have to call the street home.

Every child deserves to be safe, loved, and given the chance to learn, dream, and thrive. Yet far too many children are growing up without the protection of a family, the opportunity of an education, or the hope of a brighter future.

Street2Scholar (S2S) Foundation exists to change that. We help street-connected children leave life on the streets behind by restoring hope, rebuilding families where possible, providing education, healthcare, and digital skills, and walking alongside every child on their journey from crisis to classroom, and from survival to opportunity.

Because no child's story should end on the street.

WHY WE EXIST

Across Nigeria, conflict, poverty, family breakdown, and inequality are forcing countless children to grow up without the safety of a home, the security of an education, or the chance to fulfil their potential. Without timely support, many face exploitation, abuse, poor health, and a future defined by circumstances beyond their control.

Several deep-rooted factors fuel Nigeria's crisis in particular:

  • Conflict and insecurity, including the Boko Haram insurgency and banditry, continue to displace families, disrupt education, and increase children's vulnerability. (UNICEF, 2024).
  • Poverty and economic hardship drive many children into street hawking, child labour, begging, and other forms of exploitation, limiting access to education. (UNICEF, 2024).
  • Nigeria has one of the world's largest populations of out-of-school children, with conflict, poverty, and inequality preventing millions from accessing quality education. (UNICEF, 2024; UNESCO, 2024).
  • Early and forced marriage continue to keep many girls, particularly in northern Nigeria, out of school. (UNICEF, 2023).
  • Child trafficking, violence, abuse, and neglect expose children to exploitation, forced labour, sexual abuse, and organised begging. (UNODC, 2024; UNICEF, 2023).
  • Limited access to healthcare, mental health services, and disability-inclusive support leaves many vulnerable children without the care they need to thrive. (WHO, 2023; UNICEF, 2023).
  • Climate-related disasters, including severe flooding and drought, continue to displace families and interrupt children's education. (UNICEF, 2024).

That's why we exist - to help children leave the streets behind, unlock their potential, and create lasting change, one child at a time.

The S2S TANOY MODEL

Five pillars. One path from the street to the scholar's seat.

Together:  Family reunification and community strengthening programmes that rebuild the social safety nets every child needs.

Achieve:  Accelerated learning programmes that compress years of missed education into months - backed by digital literacy training and scholarship support.

Nurture:  Comprehensive healthcare and trauma-informed counselling, addressing both the physical and psychological wounds of street life.

Overcome Vocational training in trades like tailoring, carpentry, and mechanics -  plus entrepreneurship support and systemic advocacy.

Youth Leadership:  Leadership training that transforms beneficiaries into community advocates, mentors, and future change-makers.

The STORIES OF HOPE

Umar's TransformationFrom the streets of Kano to the classroom. Reunited with his family through Together and enrolled in our Accelerated Learning Programme, Umar now reads with confidence and is training in tailoring through Overcome. He's begun to dream again — of becoming a teacher.

Abebi's JourneyFrom survival in Lagos to strength and independence. Once selling goods on the street to get by, Abebi was reconnected with family, supported through counselling, and is now mentoring younger girls through our Youth Leadership programme.

Chike's TransformationFrom Onitsha's streets to purpose. Reunited with family and supported through counselling, Chike is now learning carpentry and mechanics — evolving from a boy fighting to survive into a young leader with pride and purpose.
